Kristin Lacy, Midwife, Doula, and Childbirth Educator

Kristin Lacy — Lamaze, Doula, MidwifeMy first pregnancy was very challenging, and it made me think that there had to be a better way to give birth. I was kind of embarrassed about feeling that way, because I had a great “medicalized” team of doctors. I just didn’t realize soon enough that they weren’t really a good fit for me.

A few years later, I was working at a pediatrician’s office, and a woman came in just raving about her incredible birth experience. She mentioned using a doula, and I had to learn more. Once I did, I realized that I had found my calling.

I’m a certified birth doula and a postpartum doula, receiving certification with DONA International—the largest doula association in the world. As a birth doula, I have specialized in special needs births, and as a postpartum doula, I have experience working with twins and triplets. I have also taught childbirth education classes, and received my Lamaze certification from Lamaze International.

I am a midwifery student that is now taking  primary clients under supervision with Nine Shorts Months Doula and Midwifery Services. In addition, I am a member of the Michigan Midwives Association.

The most important part of my job is to make sure that giving birth is a good memory for any mother. I feel that I have been successful when I leave mothers confident and self-empowered. I make sure that everyone involved becomes part of the birth team, especially family members. I make sure that my clients are never alone during the birthing process and that they are completely informed about everything going on. I don’t take over or try to control the birth process; I just help the woman remain calm and give her the support she needs, ensuring she leaves the delivery room with a great memory.

I am very passionate about what I do. I love being involved during such a special time in a family’s life. When I have allowed a woman to trust her body when giving birth, then I have done my job.
