Birth Doula
As a professional, non-medical birth labor assistant, I comfort the mother and father during birth, act as a liaison between the hospital staff and the birthing mother, and provide one-on-one care that the hospital staff or doctor may not be able to provide. I do this by meeting the mother and birth team before birth, educating her, and discussing her options. I practice comfort techniques and bring my experience and specialized training needed to carry out these unique comfort measures. Mothers who have hired me are happier about their birth experiences, because a birth doula’s job is to empower her during birth and support her unconditionally.
The wisdom and emotional support of experienced women at birth is an ancient tradition.
Birth doulas improve the overall outcomes and experience of mothers giving birth. Studies show that women have shorter labors, fewer medical interventions, fewer Cesarean operations, and healthier babies. Recent evidence also suggests that when a doula provides labor support, women are more satisfied with their experience and mother-infant interaction is enhanced. Mothers remember their birth experiences in detail for the rest of their lives. It is my hope as a doula to make that memory a joyful one. Also, studies have shown that mothers who use a doula have lower incidence of postpartum depression, breastfeed longer, and are closer to their infants.
Monitrice
A Monitrice provides the emotional and physical support you already expect from a skilled and experienced birth doula. And, has special training in midwifery or nursing. Hiring a monitrice allows you to have the peace of mind of staying home longer. She monitors fetal heart tones, blood pressure, and cervical dilation, effacement, and station. Evidence suggests that families are more satisfied & more involved with their birth experience.

Postpartum Doula
As a professional postpartum doula, I care for the mother after the birth. My main concern is caring for the mom: helping her to establish breastfeeding, answering her questions, and talking about the birth. I am helpful in easing the anxieties surrounding the family’s new roles as parents, big brothers/sisters, or new baby in the house.
The following are some advantages gained by using a postpartum doula:
• Increased chance of successful breastfeeding
• Less chance of postpartum depression
• Less maternal exhaustion
• Less frustration
• Less apprehension during early weeks
• Ability for Dad to return to work sooner with less anxiety
• Earlier bonding with baby due to increased confidence
• Flexible schedule designed around the needs of the family
• Relatives who live far away are given a way to help with the baby by paying for a doula
